Francophonie and Plurylingualism : Linguistic Policy

French is an international language, a shared asset and legacy not only of France and neighbouring countries, but also of a large number of former colonies or outposts of French influence abroad. Plural Francophonies are therefore posited as a vantage point through which the politics of language can be explored, in all their resonance with geopolitics of power, and biopolitical issues, crucial to Europe today through phenomena such as migration, global displacement and the rise of nationalisms.

EUR-francophonie

EUR-francophonie

The EUR FRAPP program is based on decades of excellence in research and teaching on francophonie, which has made our university the centre of a major international network involving high-level scholarship and intensive exchanges at the graduate and doctoral level, through joint degrees and jointly supervised PhDs. The EUR intends to further extend this asset thanks to an emerging interdisciplinary dynamics fostered by UPEC’s strategic emphasis on the theme of “Transformations, inequalities, resistances”, which has allowed for unprecedented cooperations between specialists of literature, linguistics, foreign languages, geography, history, philosophy, law, economics, political science and sociology, all concerned by issues of global power and engagement with the Other, and involved locally in addressing the educational needs of our community.

The objective is to provide students with unique opportunities to acquire critical and heuristic skills from the undergraduate level and to develop an interest in interdisciplinary research by conducting their own projects. Individualized programs of study include internships in laboratories or abroad. We believe that the training we will provide will inculcate an ethic of international relations, which seems essential to the sharing of the Francophonie as a common good and to the decolonization of the imaginary.
